Ducati Monster S2R Skinned, but Still Looks Handsome

Ducati Monster S2R Skinned, but Still Looks Handsome

We often praise custom projects from top builders, but they all must have started at some point.

So is Brent Smedley, who started his journey as a builder after buying a 2006 Ducati Monster S2R 800 with a 3,500 mile (5,632 km) odometer.

As well as studying sports medicine at a local university, the home builder studies metal fabrication in his spare time.

All of this training allowed Smedley to build his dream motorbike, which he named the Antevasine.

From  the Monster  he acquired earlier, Smedley kept the 803cc V-twin four-valve air-cooled Desmodromic unit, but ditched most of the stock frame.

Leaving the shell intact, the builder then made the outer frame which now houses the mighty engine and hand-made gas tank.

However, he didn't stop there. Smedley also assembled the front fender, electronic system housing, gauge holder, battery compartment and  stainless steel exhaust .

Smedley kept the single-sided swingarm and 17-inch wheelset, and also updated the front end with a Speedymoto triple clamp and a Ducati Monster S4R fork assembly.

He didn't interfere with the Desmodromic V-twin's internals at all. But the Microtec ECU, custom velocity stack, and custom oil cooling ducts help the old engine run better than ever.

To match the Antevasine's aggressive stance, Smedley adopted clip-on handlebars, while the Motogadget controls, instrument cluster and turn signals gave the Monster a modern twist.

In addition to completing the fabrication, painting, and electrical wiring of his private garage, Smedley enlisted outside assistance for the project's powder coating and upholstery.

Still, the part-time builder should be proud of the Antevasine finish, and the hard work he put into the build.

"It's a strange feeling, dedicating so much energy and time to one cause," said Smedley.

"Overall, I couldn't believe I could build what I consider a cool machine, starting all with zero fabrication skills."

Now, Smedley must decide whether he will keep or sell this Avant-Garde Monster. However, he didn't seem in a hurry.

"I really want to sit down, have a beer or two and talk to people about this bike for a bit," he added.
